Automatic Scrap Metal Baler: the Roter RA Series

Built in Italy · Six Models, 70–140 t · Siemens PLC as Standard · Commissioning and Training Available

An automatic scrap metal baler is a hydraulic press that feeds, compresses and discharges scrap in a continuous, PLC-controlled cycle, so that production and maintenance scrap is turned into uniform bales without a manual baling line.

Roter’s RA Series covers six models, from the RA70.1 to the RA140.2XL, with main cylinder forces from 70 to 140 tonnes and a Siemens PLC as standard. Every RA baler is built in Italy by R.F. Srl, with assembly and testing at its Limidi site.

Built for Plants That Never Stop

In a steel plant or a manufacturing site, scrap is not an occasional delivery. It is a stream: offcuts, trimmings and production waste arriving shift after shift. Handled by hand, that stream ties up people, floor space and forklifts.

Roter’s answer is a baler that becomes part of the line, built for stable throughput, repeatable bales and integration into structured industrial workflows.

*From the RA Series datasheet. Working pressure is 280 bar across the range. Productivity depends on the type of material and the feeding mode, and our engineers confirm it for your scrap before quoting.

Engineered for Uptime

  • Siemens PLC control with a 5″ touch screen, and an automation-ready architecture configured to your line.
  • Parker PV Plus Series main pump.
  • Cylinders with linear position transducers for precise, repeatable strokes.
  • Bolted, replaceable blades and Hardox wear plates, so wear parts are changed, not the structure.
  • Options including a customised loading hopper, a customised exit chute, Hardox wave-shaped wear plates, preheated hydraulic oil, a weighing system and a customised colour.

Configured Around Your Material and Line

No two plants feed scrap the same way. Every RA baler is configured around four questions: what material arrives, how it reaches the press (conveyor or line integration), what bale format downstream handling needs, and how operators and safety systems work around it. Electrical and hydraulic requirements, and any civil works, are confirmed during the technical consultation and are often minimised.

For the economics, read how automated balers reduce labour costs and scrap metal balers for steel plants. See also the Industrial & Steel Plants application.

Commissioned and Supported for the Long Term

Long-term reliability depends on what happens after delivery. Each RA project starts with a site layout review, and a commissioning plan and operator training are available, backed by remote assistance and spare-parts supply.

Automatic Scrap Metal Baler: Frequently Asked Questions

What is an automatic scrap metal baler?

It is a hydraulic press that feeds, compresses and discharges scrap in a continuous, PLC-controlled cycle, turning production and maintenance scrap into uniform bales without a manual baling line.

Which models are in the Roter RA Series?

Six models: RA70.1, RA90.2, RA90.2H, RA140.2, RA140.2H and RA140.2XL, with main cylinder forces from 70 to 140 tonnes and electric motors from 18.5 to 45 kW.

What control system does the RA Series use?

A Siemens PLC with a 5″ touch screen as standard, with cylinders fitted with linear position transducers.

Can an RA baler be integrated with a conveyor?

Yes. Feeding and integration points, including conveyor and line integration, are part of each RA configuration, along with bale format, automation and safety adaptations.
