A mobile car baler is a hydraulic baling press built to be moved between sites, on a trailer or a hook-lift frame, so that end-of-life vehicles and light scrap can be baled where they arise rather than hauled loose to a fixed plant.

The Roter RR5/RR6 is supplied mounted on a three-axle trailer, as a roll-on/roll-off unit or semi-mobile, and needs no foundation in any configuration. It is designed and built in Ferrara, Italy, and bales end-of-life vehicles at 15–20 tonnes per hour.

Take the Baler to the Scrap, Not the Scrap to the Baler

Loose car shells are mostly empty space. Every truck that carries them unbaled is paying to move air. For operators who collect from several yards, run a temporary clearance contract or rent the land they work on, a fixed baling station only solves half the problem: the material still has to reach it.

Roter approached the question from the yard outwards. Drawing on three decades of heavy-engineering experience, it designed the RR5/RR6 so that the same press can be fixed in one place or travel to the work, without civil works at either end. Arrive, position, bale, and move on.

Four Configurations, One Machine

ConfigurationHow it movesBest for
Three-axle trailerTowed on the road between sitesContractors baling at several yards or on clearance jobs
Roll-on/roll-offLifted on and off by a hook-lift truckOperators who reposition the press between their own sites
Semi-mobileRepositioned within the yardYards whose layout changes with stock and seasons
FixedPermanent baling stationSites with a settled, high-volume flow

In every one of the four, the RR5/RR6 needs no foundation. Read why that matters in No foundation. No compromise. A smarter way to bale end-of-life vehicles.

Mobile, Without Giving Up Throughput

Mobility is worth little if the press cannot keep pace once it is on site. The RR5/RR6 is built as a full-scale baler, not a compromise:

Throughput figures are Roter’s published data. Real output depends on your vehicle mix and feeding method, and our engineers confirm it against your material before quoting.

  • Diesel autonomy. A Perkins or CAT engine means the press works where there is no mains supply.
  • One operator. Radio remote control lets one person load from the crane and run the cycle.
  • Three cylinders, not two. Positioned asymmetrically to concentrate force where a car shell resists most. The engineering behind it.
  • Ready for the season. Preheated hydraulic oil, preheated engine, automatic greasing and a liquid collection tank are available as options.
  • Self-loading. A grapple with rotor in 250, 280 or 300-litre sizes, with an optional air-conditioned cabin.

Supported Wherever the Press Travels

A press that moves needs support that follows it. Every RR5/RR6 is installed and commissioned on site, with operator and maintenance training, remote diagnostics, on-site technical assistance when a visit is needed, and guaranteed spare-parts supply from Ferrara.

An emergency spare-parts kit is available so the most critical parts travel with the machine. See baler spare parts and service.

Mobile Car Baler: Frequently Asked Questions

What is a mobile car baler?

A mobile car baler is a hydraulic baling press mounted on a trailer or a hook-lift frame, so that end-of-life vehicles and light scrap can be baled at the site where they arise instead of being hauled loose to a fixed plant.

Can the Roter RR5/RR6 be trailer-mounted?

Yes. The RR5/RR6 can be supplied mounted on a three-axle trailer, as a roll-on/roll-off unit, semi-mobile or fixed.

Does a mobile car baler need a foundation?

The Roter RR5/RR6 does not. It needs no foundation in any configuration, so there are no civil works before the first bale.

How many tonnes per hour can a mobile RR5/RR6 bale?

Roter rates the RR5/RR6 at 15–20 tonnes per hour on end-of-life vehicles and 8–14 tonnes per hour on vans and light mixed scrap. Real output depends on vehicle mix and feeding.
