A car baler is a heavy-duty hydraulic press that compacts depolluted end-of-life vehicle (ELV) shells into dense bales for transport to shredders and steel mills. Baling turns bulky, irregular car bodies into a compact, stackable product, freeing yard space and putting more tonnes on every truck. The Roter RR5/RR6 car baler is designed and built in Ferrara, Italy, and bales end-of-life vehicles at 15–20 tonnes per hour.
Built for the Reality of the Dismantling Yard
Every vehicle dismantler faces the same challenge. Once a car has been depolluted and stripped of its valuable parts, what remains is a bulky, awkward shell that takes up space and costs money to move. How do you turn that shell into a product that travels efficiently and sells consistently?
Roter’s answer draws on three decades of heavy-engineering experience: the RR5/RR6, a car baler designed around the work of the dismantling yard rather than the showroom. It bales end-of-life vehicles at 15–20 tonnes per hour, and vans and light mixed scrap at 8–14 tonnes per hour. The outcome: one press that can handle the whole metal output of a typical dismantling yard.
| RR5 | RR6 | |
|---|---|---|
| Box length | 5 m | 6 m |
| End-of-life vehicles | 15–20 t/h | 15–20 t/h |
| Light mixed scrap | 8–14 t/h | 8–14 t/h |

No Foundation. No Civil Works. Baling From Day One.
For many yards, the biggest obstacle to baling has never been the machine itself, but the building work that comes with it. The RR5/RR6 removes that obstacle entirely: it needs no foundation in any configuration, so there are no civil works before the first bale. Choose the format that suits your site:
- Fixed, for a permanent baling station
- Roll-on/roll-off, moved by hook-lift truck
- Semi-mobile, repositioned within the yard
- Mounted on a three-axle trailer, for operators who bale at several sites

Engineered Around the Car Shell
A car shell resists compression unevenly, and it resists most at the end of the stroke. Rather than meet that resistance with two cylinders, Roter uses three, positioned asymmetrically to concentrate force where the shell pushes back hardest. The result is tighter, more uniform bales and a load shared across the structure. The engineering behind it.
- One operator. Radio remote control lets one person load and run the cycle from the crane.
- Grapple with rotor available in 250, 280 or 300-litre sizes, with an air-conditioned cabin option.
- Ready for every season: preheated hydraulic oil, preheated engine, automatic greasing and a liquid collection tank are available as options.
- Proven components: a Parker PV Plus Series main pump and a 7″ or 10″ touch screen.
What Baling Changes for a Car Dismantler
- Lower transport cost per tonne: dense bales fill trucks by weight, not volume. See how balers reduce transport emissions.
- Safer, tidier yards: stacked bales replace piles of loose shells.
- Consistent output for shredders and steel mills, with Dense Bale and Bale for Mills cycles.
- Uptime in harsh conditions: built for high loads, long shifts and outdoor work.

Installed, Trained and Supported From Ferrara
A car baler is only as productive as the support behind it. That is why every RR5/RR6 comes with a partnership that lasts the life of the machine:
- Installation and commissioning on site, by the technicians who know the machine
- Operator and maintenance training, so your crew runs it safely from the first shift
- Remote diagnostics, tracing many faults without waiting for a site visit
- On-site technical assistance when a visit is needed
- Guaranteed spare-parts supply from Ferrara

Car Baler: Frequently Asked Questions
What is a car baler?
A car baler is a heavy-duty hydraulic press that compacts depolluted end-of-life vehicle shells into dense bales for transport to shredders and steel mills, reducing volume and transport cost.
How many cars per hour can the RR5/RR6 bale?
Roter rates the RR5/RR6 at 15–20 tonnes per hour on end-of-life vehicles. The number of vehicles depends on their weight and your feeding method; our engineers estimate it for your vehicle mix.
Does a car baler need a foundation?
The Roter RR5/RR6 does not. It needs no foundation in any configuration and can be fixed, roll-on/roll-off, semi-mobile or mounted on a three-axle trailer.
Can the RR5/RR6 bale more than cars?
Yes. Besides end-of-life vehicles, it bales vans and light mixed scrap at 8–14 tonnes per hour, so one press can handle the whole metal output of a typical dismantling yard.
What is the difference between the RR5 and the RR6?
The box length: 5 metres on the RR5 and 6 metres on the RR6. Our engineers recommend the size based on your vehicle mix and the bale format your buyer requires.
